The invention of Photoshop gives photographers a new way of creating creative photos. There are endless possibitites of what one can do to a piece of JPEG file. This tutorial will teach you how to bring some life back to a seeming uninteresting photography by giveing it a Hong Kong movie like effect !
Step 1: Open the photograph in photoshop and adjust down the saturation level to get rid some of the colour
Step 2: This is the most important step! Go to Image>Adjustments>Exposure and adjust the exposure, offset and gamma settings. For a start, you can follow the settings in the printscreen below. Once you get the hang of it, you can play with the settings.
Step 3: Go to Image>Adjustments>Colour Balance and adjust the colour tone of the photo. The same thing apply. You can play with the settings to your own preferences.
Step 4: Now to add some noise to finish the whole thing. Go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. You can play with a range of noise setting from 4 to 13%.
Step 5: Now add the black borders on the top and bottom. You can use layers or even just draw black rectangles on the photograph.
Conclusion: There are so many kinds of things you can play with in Photoshop to create these kind of effects. What I had posted here are really just the tip of the iceberg and should be considered very simple already! Have fun and explore! Do let me know if you have other ideas that can improve on this! |
