A small consolation for those who do not have the budget to own a DSLR. Fresh out of the oven, Sony DSC H50 prosumer camera with Carl Zeiss lens up to 15x optical zoom and  9.1 megapixel sensor. Below is the official news release from Sony:

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 25, 2008 – Sony today announced the latest addition to its high-zoom camera line, the 9.1-megapixel Cyber-shot® DSC-H50 digital camera. It is the ideal choice for people looking for high zoom, high-resolution and speed.

This new model utilizes a powerful Carl Zeiss® 15x optical zoom lens with Super SteadyShot® optical image stabilization to capture action at a distance. One of the main lens elements is manufactured from super low-dispersion glass, which helps it produce more exact point-to-point correspondence between an object and its image. The lens yields sharp, high-contrast images and reduces color fringing, even when shooting in telephoto ranges.

The camera also features a large, 3-inch tilting LCD screen so you can shoot comfortably from nearly any position, at low and high angles. Its scratch-resistant, UV hard-coat finish adds a premium look and feel that mirrors the performance of the model.

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 25, 2008 – Sony’s new Cyber-shot® DSC-W300 digital camera is expected to be among the industry’s most pocket-able, high-resolution point-and-shoot digital cameras featuring niche performance options.

The camera announced today integrates an ultra-high 13.6-megapixel CCD imager along with a Carl Zeiss® Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.7-inch LCD screen and an eye-level viewfinder in a compact size. With its ultra-hard titanium coating, the model offers a premium look and finish that is highly-resistant to scratches and messy fingerprints.

I used to have a piece of disposable tablecloth to act as a backdrop whenever I took photographs of still objects like the photos of my new Oakley Specs. The problem with this method is, it is a hassle to fold and pack away the tablecloth nicely before the ladies in my house start nagging at me. The crumpled tablecloth also does not help in making my photos nicer with the roughness of the background.

Buy a light tent? Spending a few hundred dollars on some enclosed fabrics that cannot help me during times of emergencies (like hiding from my gf) does not sounds reasonable. So I put off the idea of having a dedicated light tent and keep using my old dirty tablecloth until I realised I can actually build my own! (Credit goes to DPS ).
