Hong Kong Movie Style using Photoshop

The invention of Photoshop gives photographers a new way of creating creative photos. There are endless possibility of what one can do to a piece of JPEG file. This tutorial will teach you how to bring some life back to a seeming uninteresting photography by giving it a Hong Kong movie like effect !

Step 1: Open the photograph in photoshop and adjust down the saturation level to get rid some of the color.

Step 2: This is the most important step! Go to Image>Adjustments>Exposure and adjust the exposure, offset and gamma settings. For a start, you can follow the settings in the print screen below. Once you get the hang of it, you can play with the settings.

Step 3: Go to Image>Adjustments>Colour Balance and adjust the color tone of the photo. The same thing apply. You can play with the settings to your own preferences.

Step 4: Now to add some noise to finish the whole thing. Go to Filter>Noise>Add Noise. You can play with a range of noise setting from 4 to 13%.

Step 5: Now add the black borders on the top and bottom. You can use layers or even just draw black rectangles on the photograph.
